Field Guide : Silverbird

$36.00

Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

The silverbird is a refined Old World flycatcher found in a handful of East African countries. Although the common name describes the bird’s head and back as “silver,” a closer look reveals two greys, one a little lighter and infused with lavender; the other, the cool blue-grey of a thick fog. Those lovely hues are set off by the tawny tangerine of the silverbird’s throat, breast, and belly.

The species is found in the acacia grasslands and bushlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, where it perches in trees and keeps a keen lookout for insect meals. Ants are a particular favorite, and it will fly from its perch to the ground to pick this prey off. The silverbird is also a skilled “hawker” – that is, jumping from its perch to capture prey on the wing.

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
